Three mushrooms live in an old forest. One has named everything in it, one has not moved in years, and one will not stop running.
The threads carry water. They carry food. They also carry how everybody's doing.
Chapter One: The Quiet Part
Three of them so far. Each one is bad at ordinary life in a different, specific way.
Hericium erinaceus
Has named four hundred and six threads, every beetle in the yard, and one puddle. Remembers every conversation exactly, including the ones you would rather he didn't.
Remembers everything
Ganoderma lucidum
Has not moved from his stump in years and would rather not discuss it. Everyone assumes he is the wise one. He is just immovable.
Does not move
Cordyceps militaris
Arrives mid-sprint, announces a lap count nobody asked for, and leaves before the reply. He is training for an event that does not exist.
Does not stop
Why these three exist, and what happens when they sell out.
I got interested in mushrooms about nine years ago and never really stopped. First the medicinal ones, then the species behind them, then the part that turned into this: every one of them behaves like a personality if you look at it long enough.
The characters turned up in 2022, and each one's temperament is their pharmacology. I did not invent much of it. Lion's mane is the one I read about first, and it is the memory one, so Leo remembers everything, which makes him kind about half the time and unbearable the rest. The other two are built the same way.
I wanted to make comics out of them. I cannot draw, and nothing on the market did the specific thing I needed, so I spent eighteen months building it. It is called Panel Haus, and The Cap Bound is the first thing made with it.
There are more of these characters than the three in here. This is where it starts.
What you get. Nothing this raises is kept. When the collection mints out, holders get credits to make their own comics with these characters inside Panel Haus, and the proceeds go back out as prizes for the best work made with them. Make something good with Leo, Remi or Cordy and you are competing for the mint.
Leo, Remi and Cordy are named after mushrooms that people take an interest in for their own reasons. Nothing here is medical advice or a claim that any mushroom treats any condition.
